The holding company of the UOL Group, which controls Compass UOL, a global digital transformation company, has announced the spin-off of its Infrastructure Services unit, creating Edge UOL. The independent company will focus on four main pillars: Edge Computing, Virtualization Technologies, Private Networks 5G, and Autonomous Operations, which are intended to modernize the technology infrastructure of organizations, including architecture, implementation and support, with technologies, cyber security, and agile governance to increase resilience, performance, and scalability. With this, Compass UOL will consolidate its focus on developing solutions for the digital transformation of global organizations, centered on applications, leaving Edge UOL to specialize in infrastructure modernization.
Edge UOL will extend its current focus on next-generation infrastructure services, expanding its emphasis on distributed computing in view of the new possibilities brought by 5G networks. The aim is to help companies reinvent their digital architecture and infrastructure, incorporating the benefits of Edge Computing into their cloud operations, and virtualization technology, which offers solutions for last generation desktops, networks, storage, and servers. With hundreds of clients, the new company will inherit Compass UOL’s expertise in networking and edge computing, with partnerships signed with the largest global technology companies, such as AWS and VMware.
“We are recognized leaders in the infrastructure services sector and in digital transformation, with more than 20 years of experience. The moment is of expansion, and Compass UOL considers that creating a new operation to accommodate both businesses is key to continuing to offer a complete solution to clients,” says Gil Torquato, CEO of the holding company that controls Compass UOL and Edge UOL.
Rodrigo Lobo, a professional with extensive experience in the UOL Group, with stints at UOL and UOL Diveo, has been with the company for 22 years and held the position of Director of Engineering and Operations. In this new phase, Lobo is the COO of Edge UOL and his mission is to leverage the use of new infrastructure technologies in organization and grow the new company.
“Edge UOL, like Compass UOL, will continue to prioritize agile operations, people development, obsession for clients and innovation, seeking excellence in everything we do. The companies will continue to work together, helping clients innovate and evolve in their business areas,” adds Lobo.
Compass UOL’s Infrastructure Services area has earned the recognition of global partners, and the spin-off replicates this expertise with its creation. In 2021, Compass UOL acquired AWS’s Networking and Data & Analytics competencies. The company also has the MSP (Managed Service Provider) competency and is recognized as an Advanced Consulting Partner with qualification in the Service Delivery Program, which validates partners who have in-depth understanding of the services in the partnership, and experience and proven success with clients in providing these services in Amazon EMR, Amazon EC2 for Windows Server, and AWS Direct Connect. In addition to these competencies, Edge UOL is a Microsoft Gold Partner, VMware Cloud Verified, VMWare Principal Partner Cloud Provider, VMware DRaaS powered, and VMware Solution Partner server Virtualization.
